Intertidal Agency is dedicated to making ocean data available and accessible.

WE ARE THE PEOPLE LAYER OF OCEAN DATA SHARING.

Data sharing is as much about relationships, mindsets, and behaviors as it is about technology. Designing, negotiating, and managing data-sharing systems requires trust, an ability to understand across boundaries, and a willingness to bring people together and have tough conversations.

WE CAN’T CHANGE THE CULTURE OF DATA TO BE MORE OPEN IF WE AREN’T OPEN OURSELVES.

We believe ocean data should be more open, so we are open too. We openly share what we’re working on and what we’re learning - the successes and the failures. We take what we learn, and we turn it into something others can use.

WE ARE ORIENTED TOWARD ACTION.

Data can help us make better decisions for ocean sustainability and climate action. The explosion of data worldwide doesn’t move us toward sustainability unless the people who are making critical decisions for our oceans can access it and make sense of it. With action as our north star, we prioritize discoverability, reuse, and scalability.

THE OCEAN DATA ECOSYSTEM IS FOR EVERYONE.

People from all backgrounds should be able to do this work. We need systems that connect local, community-driven programs to global data platforms while respecting Indigenous data sovereignty and protecting sensitive information. The challenges ahead require everyone’s insights and data-sharing tools that are accessible to all.
